Little Red Wagon, OR, How I Made It To Sunday School In One Easy Step

Somehow I went to bed last night and actually fell asleep before the sun came up. That was Super Duper Hooray Item #1. Then I woke up early this morning and went to church with my dad, which was S.D. H.I. #2. While I was at church, I ran into my old boss from Sacramento that I nannied for, S.D. H. I. #3, and got to see my former charges, Bran and the Bug. S.D.H.I. #s 4 and 5. And after that, my dad and I went to breakfast: no crowds, a delicious omelet, and my dad was pleased to note that there was no banana cream pie in stock, S.D.H.I. #6. Then I came back to my place and hung out with my sister and brother and dad and then I went to go study French, but instead I took a nap, the eighth S.D.H.I.  Also, I finished a good book. All in all, it’s been a good day.

And I have to say I feel fresher. No, no, this isn’t turning into a Calgon commercial. And yet . . . No! This will not turn into a Calgon commercial.

The truth of the matter is that I’ve been sick of a lot of stupid stuff that now I feel equipped to get rid of. I’m sick of smoking. I’m sick of beefy jawed boys. I’m sick of wasting time. I’m sick of sleeping too late. I’m sick of idle business. I’m sick of putting off for tomorrow. I’m sick of waiting for a make out. I’m sick of waiting for a bailout. I’m sick of being corpulent. I’m sick of feeling spent. As my mom used to say, quoting her father, This is your little red wagon, and you’ve got to pull it.

So here goes.

I’m pulling my wagon to success on my french final. I’m pulling my wagon to devotion to God. I’m pulling my wagon to Paris, and Scotland, and Iceland, maybe, next Spring. I’m pulling it to wherever else the wind may take me. I’m pulling it through the doldrums and being satisfied at who I am, where I am, what I am, right now. I’m pulling it by myself. I’m pulling it and that’s good enough for now.

My little red wagon is about to hit the road.
